由挪威敲击乐手Thomas Stronen和英国萨克斯风手Iain Ballamy倡导的跨国全明星四重奏Food是挪威当代音乐场景除Supersilent外，又一个重量级乐团。早期的Food还包括小号手Arve Henriksen（乐队Supersilent、Generator X成员）和贝司手Mats Eilertsen（乐队Parish、Turanga成员）。自1998年在奥斯陆Molde音乐节登场，Food在音乐中营造出的优雅与冷静的氛围，让他们的名声从挪威一下子扩散到了国际。

Food的音乐在简约中总是透着激烈与冒险性。乐队前两张专辑，走纯器乐即兴和新爵士路线，从中也可见欧洲传统民谣、日本尺八音乐，美国自由爵士的影响。直至转投Rune Grammofon后，则加入了更多的声音采样和电声效果。利用锣、钹、铃响、钟、木块等发出的声音元素，结合小号、萨克斯风、贝司以及电子音乐片段的拼贴，试图让这些相异的声音变的更有机，音乐所熏染的情绪范围也因此达到从极简到狂暴。

Food在Rune Grammofon出版的第一张专辑“Veggie”（属于乐队的第三张专辑），由Supersilent的主脑Helge Sten化名的Deathprod监制，Mats Eilertsen的原音贝斯戏话，透过Arve Henriksen的激昂小号与嗓音牵引，Iain Ballamy由暗化明的萨克斯风吹奏，以及Thomas Stronen活络音乐爵士肌理的精湛打击声效，呈现出Food幽悒阴霍的音乐肌理。之后的“Last Supper”则一扫先前的低迷，增加了旋律性和对电音的运用，整体气氛优雅干练，可以说是乐队一次美丽的回归。

2007年，Arve Henriksen和Mats Eilertsen的离开，让Food一下子变成了Thomas Stronen和Iain Ballamy的二重奏试验田。乐队第五张专辑“Molecular Gastronomy”找来女钢琴手Maria Kannegaard助阵，一改过往精于编曲的创作思路，越玩越即兴。

Food最新专辑目前正在制作当中，据Thomas Stronen透露，未来Food会有许多不同的音乐家加入，力图发掘出更多声音/音乐上的可能性。而他们的新专辑，会找来奥地利声音艺术家Christian Fennesz和挪威神音小号手Nils Peter Molvar参与。由此可见，现时的Food更象一个全球当代音乐场景的连结者和实验者。（编译/Iphen Tang）

Since their first concert at Molde in 1998 this groundbreaking group has toured and recorded internationally creating thought provoking improvised and textural music of great depth and beauty.

Originally a quartet including trumpeter Arve Henriksen and bassist Mats Eilertsen, Food has now reduced to its core and founder members Ballamy and Strønen whose concept is to invite like-minded musicians to join them and engage with their contemporary and forward thinking approach to creating music, using sound space texture and contrast to create ever-changing moods and environments for true improvisation.

By combining acoustic elements including bells, blocks, gongs and lyrical saxophone, the music is enhanced and tempered with live sampling and drums creating moods which range from minimalist to very turbulent Food have released 5 albums, most recently "Molecular Gastronomy" for the Norwegian label Rune Grammofon.

Food is now a duo (from being a quartet with Mats Eilertsen and Arve Henriksen) and also invite musicians to join in. Nils Petter Molvær, Jan Bang and Christian Fennesz has played recently. Working on Foods 6th record now, with Fennesz and Molvær.
